Bracket and Pulley Alignment

I have a 68 Chevrolet Custom Long Bed. I have a 71 to 85 Jasper Crate Motor...came with the truck. Currently the truck has a short water pump on it. I need to get an alternator bracket as I currently have one needing to be properly secured (po was running it with one mounting bolt). My question is...I hope to be adding power steering and air conditioning in my future and do not want to buy and then re-buy parts as I add accessories

Does anyone have advice on where to start since currently I only have an alternator? Should I start working towards a long water pump to make buying the brackets an easier process in the future? Any advice would be appreciated. I want serpentine but that will come way down the road due to money.

Thanks,
Jimmy

Re: Bracket and Pulley Alignment

Are you planning or going serpentine or staying v-belt?
Electric fan or water pump mounted?

Re: Bracket and Pulley Alignment

I will be running V-Belt for a while and running the fan off the water pump.

Eventually, I will be going serpentine along with E-Fans but I believe that will be several years off.

Re: Bracket and Pulley Alignment

I've got a '70 350, short water pump and have added a/c (Vintage Air) and power steering. I used Alan Grove a/c and p/s bracket. I also added an additional pulley to the crank. Took a bit of noodling to get the belt configuration just right, but works nicely now.

Thank very much for the response. I was debating on whether or not it would make sense to put a long water pump in to match Era of engine. I will definitely look into that option.

Re: Bracket and Pulley Alignment

Out of curiosity, which ones did you end up choosing and what kind of power steering assembly do you have? I am trying to plan ahead and plan on doing power steering asap so curious about the orientation. Part numbers and pics if you have them. Thanks!

Re: Bracket and Pulley Alignment

For mine, I used a variable ratio gearbox and pump from AGR. The SB2 series box and their Superpump. Also replaced the rag joint and got an add-a-pulley from Classic Parts. The bracket will depend on your motor but the Alan Grove web site will help you pick the right one for p/s & a/c. I beliebe my a/c bracket was a 100R and the p/s bracket was a 400L. One caution, if you go w the AGR Pump--its just the pump, you'll need to get the housing unless you go w a remote reservoir. I got a pump/housing from O'Reily's and knocked the housing off and installed the AGR pump in that, returned the O'Reily pump for the core exchange. Net cost was ~$35 (or you could find one at a junkyard.) The AGR pump comes w the O rings to reinstall in the new housing. Hope this helps.

A bit hard to see, but here's the ps pump, gearbox and Alan Grove a/c bracket.
