I could use some help 72 K20

I have searched and searched, and there seems to be 1281 answers to this question. I have a 72 K20 longbed that I am going to use to be my daily driver. What I want from this truck is simple, daily driven, occasionally used to pull my car trailer, and camper. I want a 5.3 motor, 4l60e transmission, and my stock axles with the passenger side drop transfer case, is there a way to do this without tearing into the internals of the transmission, and if so, what do i need to do? any links you may have are welcome!!

heres something, If i just go order an np241 from a 91 suburban or blazer, would that work? i know there will be other issues probably, like driveshaft length, but would this work?

You're going to need the electric speed signal to make the 4L60e shift. There seems to be a few ways to skin that cat.

isn't that in the taileshaft, mounting plate of the transmission, basically right in between the 2?

Ord and aa both make spacers to run a 205 behind a stock 700/4l60e. You'll need a th350 np205. You'll also likely have to modify the lengths of the driveshafts or move the motor forward.

Re: I could use some help 72 K20

thanks guys, a little more direction and back to the search bar, I would just like to get this stuff lined out, I have an nv4500 also, out of a 94 chevy tonner, from behind a 6.5 td, i don't know if this is an option, but i will do some searching to see which is more cost effective...

Re: I could use some help 72 K20

What you're planning will cost a few but chances are staying with the type (auto/manual) that's in there now may turn out a bit cheaper. Which do you have now? If an auto, which one? There are pic on the internet that will help to ID the trans and TC.
What TC is in it now? If its a 205, that's pretty much the best TC around. Various places make adaptors to make it work as mentioned above, but I think a 4Lx0 trans is 32 spline out and you'd need a 4x4 trans.
Is the NV4500 from a 4x4?

Re: I could use some help 72 K20

there is a local guy that buys chevy trucks and suvs, anywhere from 88-04 and parts them, mainly 4wd, sells motors with wiring harness, basically anything you need he would have. All parts could come from one truck actually, and the nv4500 comes from a 94 tonner 4wd with the 6.5 turbo diesel, all there, but the motor and body are shot, my 72 truck has the 400 tranny with a cast iron part time transfer case, not sure of the model, my goal with this truck is to make a daily driver, with overdrive transmission, a very modest lift, and fuel injection is a plus, i drive a truck for a living & shifting isn't that exciting anymore. Id prefer automatic, but an nv4500 would be an option also.

So lets recap, 1972 with 355 motor, 400 tranny, part time cast transfer case, 3/4 ton, I want a driver, with overdrive, and fuel injection, my budget isn't unlimited, but i also don't mind spending money, if i can make it dependable, I don't want a race truck, I want a driver!
