Robin Smith
I have just purchased a '66 Chevy C20 SB V8 Fleet Side Truck here in New Zealand, yeah just another Kiwi, I would like a breakdown of the small block suffix code taken from the passengers side front of the motor behind the Alternator so I can understand what my truck is all about, the code is:190013816 TII02HN, all help would be much appreciated.
Cheers, Robin |

Re: Robin Smith
I don't know the breakdown on your code, but welcome to the forum!

Re: Robin Smith
The first part is usually a partial VIN, and the second half is the engine codes...but the second batch of numbers should be 8 digits on a smallblock. I only see 7 in your post.
Is this the original engine, or are you trying to find out what engine was put in it at some point in time? GM changed the way they did VIN's and tags, so there are a few variables. (was this an actual import, or was it an overseas market vehicle?)

T tonawanda nov.2 HN can be a 327 - 65,68 or 69. it also shows for a 69 350 and lists diff horse powers and manual or a/trans. the 65 edition shows up as a 375hp FI engine. the casting nbr on the back L/H side will help a little more. it is on top of the bell housing flange. drivers side ron |

Re: Robin Smith
Welcome to the forum Robin
You need to get at least the block casting number. The casting date code would help also but is a little more difficult to gain access with the engine still in the truck.

Re: Robin Smith
Off topic - How long have you had your truck? What colour is it?
Any pictures of it? Greg.

Re: Robin Smith
Welcome, Robin Smith. Nice C20!
Did you say the alternator is on the passenger side? originally, it would've been on the driver's side. It could possibly be a newer engine. I believe the alternator was moved over when the factory switched to the long waterpump style.

Re: Robin Smith
Looks good.
I was in Nz two years ago and went through Levin as my wife and I toured the country in our rented camper van. New Zealand is a beautiful country. I saw only one other '60-'66 while I was there. Do you know of any others? Greg.

Re: Robin Smith
Johnny: motor was replaced a fair while ago I suspect, going by the block numbers, it seems to have come out of a '69 Camaro, I believe the original motor should have been a 327cc the one in it now is a 350cc with a th400 trans. Cheers, Robin.

Re: Robin Smith
My Son is parting out a right hand drive C10 and putting the six stud drivetrain under his truck which will give him a disc brake front end and is going to drop in a LS motor, I will probably just freshen up the 350 and trans, both trucks have solid bodies virtually rust free, mine has had a couple of patch panels done on the front guards my boy has yet to do his, both vehicles will basically stay the same, body wise, apart from a cut and polish and matt clear coated. Cheers Robin.

GREG63:
Here is another truck you may be interested in, I keep it as Garden Art, it is a 1942 Fargo, assembled in Canada, I believe the body is Australian and it was imported into NZ from Australia and was used by the Wellington City Council's Waterworks Department ( it still has part of their Logo on the doors) and as far as I can tell it was parked up for years at a contractors yard in Silverstream about 30km north of Wellington before I purchased it to let it "Rust in Peace". It has a flat six and manual gearbox probably weighs about three tons all up. Cheers...... Robin. |

Re: Robin Smith
Cool history, Robin, especially since it is a wartime vehicle. Long distance journey!
