New cam?
Im currently running lunati vodoo cam in a 355 with vortec heads, flattop pistons. Current cam specs are.
Basic Operating RPM Range: 1,000-5,500 Intake Duration at 050 inch Lift: 213 Exhaust Duration at 050 inch Lift: 219 Duration at 050 inch Lift: 213 int./219 exh. Lobe Separation (degrees): 112 Im wanting more power and my question is how much HP will i gain from switching to one of these cams. Note my heads already have new springs to support a bigger lift. You'll turn your truck into a slug. Look at those rpm ranges. As those go up, torque at low rpm goes down. Horsepower is all fine and dandy on the track, but on the street you drive torque.
All of those cams will feel weaker for a street truck than what you are running now.

Rich is spot on, the bigger cams will make more HP but, at a higher rpm. What you gain up top, you lose at the lower end, where you spend most of your time on the street.
What you really want is more cubes. |
