I'm looking to replace my stock radiator and electric fans. I added Vintage Air over the winter and the truck runs a little hot sitting in traffic. I'm torn between the two pictured below. Is it worth the extra $100 for the shroud?

There a reason why auto makers use them on new cars, I'm sure you know it helps direct the air across the coils. Much better.

Get the shroud. If that is a 3 core champion rad with dual fans and shroud it works perfect. That is what I run on my truck!

The shroud allows air to be pulled across all the radiator coils . The first picture with out will only pull air from the area of the fan .As you can see the fan will not move any air above and below the fan at slow speeds or sitting at a red light . With the shroud would be much better for removing heat . My vote goes to getting the shroud .

It is. What temp range does yours usually run? Do you have AC?

Stays around 190-195. With High Flow 180 TSTAT. And yes it has AC. It keeps a 550 plus truck cool. I got the painless dual fan relay kit with AC. I will see if I can find a pic of it. You know how hot it gets here in TN with the heat and humidity. And thanks. Back at you looks good.

Thanks bro. I'm going to PF for The Rod Run in September. I'd hate to overheat while cruising the strip.

Yes you will need that for sure. Hell hit me up we can meet up man. I plan on going also. Also you will need a fitting for the heat hose that runs to the top of the rad. Google 1/4 not x 5/8 hose barb. Only found two places that has them. Got mine on Amazon. You will need that.

Definitely shroud. I have the exact same radiator fan combo with shroud in my 77 with a sbc and 6-71 blower. I run a restrictor plate instead of thermostat, and it never goes above 195. Shroud helps tremendously.

OK. Sorry to high jack the thread. I'm interested. Is this simply a matter of removing the existing fan from the water pump? What about the belt? Why the 3 core over the 2?

Walt,

Remove the fan but leave the pulley on the water pump. You can use shorter fasteners to bolt the pulley to the water pump. The belt stays the same. The 3 core has 3 rows of cores versus 2 so the coolant stays in the radiator longer and technically is supposed to cool better. I pulled the trigger and ordered mine last night.

I got mine from championradiator.com. Which is a dealer of champion radiators. It is led foot racing. I got the rad the shroud and overflow tank plus got everything polished and shipped for $599.

I got mine on eBay for $380 with free shipping. Wasn't polished though. That was radiator 3 core, fans and shroud.
