Auto 3 spd. or 2 spd Column ?
Can any body tell me if what is pictured here is a 3 spd Auto Column or is it a 2 spd Auto Column shift. If it is a 3 spd where I have a arrow pointing at the area with a dit dot dash lines and a X in it can that area be cut out for making it work as a 4 spd column shift? I am trying to use the Original column for a 700R4 trans. Am I asking too much or will I just get my self in trouble trying this, LOL what could go wrong. Thanks, mjgord51

I used a Powerglide column on a 700 trans and didn't have to do anything. The shift indicator position is wrong, but all the gear selections are there if manually shifted through. I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish by cutting that section out of the column.

Re: Auto 3 spd. or 2 spd Column ?
I understand what you are saying now. It is not necessary to cut the outer part of the column to get sufficient shift arm movement to select all gears on a 700 trans while using a Powerglide column. But, I still have PRNDL indicator window on top of the column inside the truck, and the pointer does not line up with the gear markings on the window except in Park. When I shift the truck into gear, I just count the clicks from moving the lever. I have not been able to find an indicator window marked for the overdrive trans. Apparently they are not available for non-tilit columns.

Good deal, I'm sure you will be able to make it work. By the way, I also used the lower brackets from a 77 model bolted to the frame instead of the older model. I figured it would work better with the 700 trans.

Re: Auto 3 spd. or 2 spd Column ?
I have a 700R4 trans in my Blazer it works fine. The trans starts out in !st gear no matter where it is on the indicator so it will work even though it is not showing !st.e

Re: Auto 3 spd. or 2 spd Column ?
In my experience, the column itself has no detents below the "Drive" position, so it will work with TH350 or 700R4. (I have no PG experience.) However, you will need to adjust the linkage rod so the column detents for P,R,N,D correspond to the trans selector shaft detents. Detents for lower gears are only on trans, not column.
You can get a 700R4 gear indicator for a 67-72 column from Ididit. http://www.ididitinc.com/accessories...icators_Acc-17 On my 82 C10, I had to buy this one when I converted from manual to TH350. It mounts to the dash, and a cable clips on to the shifter "bowl". It's for 79-83, as I recall.
