Dash pad questions

Hi guys. I'm doing a frame off 78 k20 Silverado. I'm looking to make it a red dash pad and the aluminum molding. Without a/c. What color did GM call the red dash pad? All I can see is carmine red. Was this the color that was used? Also which vendor sells that molding? I have found moldings for a/c but not without.
Thanks

Re: Parts

carmine red is the only red I recall and you can probably find the dash molding in LMC catalogue

Yeah I looked at LMC they only have 81-87 molding without a/c. All other years have the vent holes cut in them.

Re: Dash pad questions

Carmine red is correct.

You can get billet aluminum pieces for the dashboard molding without A/C, but no reproductions. There's a zillion with A/C, none without. So I think it is a junkyard run, or you can ask on all the forums. Someone who put A/C in should have it in their parts bin.

Re: Dash pad questions

Thanks guys. The more I thought about it the carmine red was the shade of pad in that truck. I'm looking to rebuild my dads 78 that he bought brand new. Had it for about 15 years, got his monies worth. Scrapped the body, kept the drivetrain and frame. He never did anything with it. I wanted to use the frame and stuff to do an earlier generation k20. But after talking with the wife, I think this is the way to go. I really want to built it identical to what he had. Which is why I'm so particular.

Re: Dash pad questions

I'm going to a huge truck salvage yard this weekend so I'll keep an eye out for one....I've found a few late 70's dashes in nice shape there recently-usually I use them for local builds since they are so hard to find. I'll check for ya anyway!

Oh geeze, I need to cover up my dash then!

Although I always considered my interior to be burgundy.

I'm from your area would you mind sharing of where this huge storage yard is located?

Well, the yard has cleared out some inventory and I did not find any good dashpads. I found some stuff for a couple of truck builds I'm currently working on-as well as just odd parts in general. I'll be keeping an eye out for you tho.

Its about 40 minutes south of Knoxville-I found it by accident one day while I was looking for a persons house who was selling some parts on CL. He basically told me how to get to the yard-cant see it from the highway-you have to drive up a long gravel drive (looks like a private drive) then it opens up to an 80-acre salvage yard....about 80% or more are GM trucks!! I'll have to ask what the actual address is next time-itd be easier to mapquest it than to explain how to get there.
