1985 4x4 value

I'm looking at a one owner, original paint 1985 4x4 Silverado. The body is really straight with only some minor surface rust. It doesn't look like it has ever been wrecked. The bed floor is beat up pretty bad. It's got a/c (needs charged), tilt, all the guages work, electric windows and door locks. Needs a front windshield. Interior is decent. 4x4 is supposed to work. It's had a GM crate motor 350 put in it. Body is only supposed to have 77K on it. New fuel pump, hoses, ball joints, tie rod ends, power steering box and drag links, and front and rear bumpers and new tires. So my question is, how much should I pay for it? Whats a good price? Thanks,

Rob

$4-6k ? I think $3k would be a steal.

More like 177K on it I would guess, unless somebody ran it out of oil

But still - they aren't making them anymore, so it's worth whatever you are willing to pay for it. It's hard to get a decent running 4x4 of any vintage for much less than $5K. Unfortunately (for the buyer) that pickup is worth more than it was ten years ago when you could probably have gotten it for $1500-$2000.

I wouldn't go on "supposed to" about anything. Drive it and make sure the 4x4 works, and it doesn't shake, rattle, and wander all over the road. Check the color of the transmission fluid.

Re: 1985 4x4 value

There are a lot of suppose to's in the description. A couple of things I noticed.

The A/C will need more than a charge guaranteed. At the very least some line seals and an accumulator. Being equipped with the R4 radial I would bet it needs a compressor too.
From the pics that is not original paint. The cab firewall and inner fender look white to me. GM did not paint firewalls a different color than the primary color.
I also agree with 1976gmc20 I see it as there is no way that truck has 77k on it. The new engine and all the front end parts thrown at it is a pretty good indication it has 177k+.
The windshield will not be just a glass replacement. Almost all shops will require a new gasket and lock bead too.

Bottom line is this truck needs to be seen and test driven to evaluate it. In my area as it is photographed and described alone I would say it would be going for anywhere from $2000.00 to $3500.00.

It all depends on the area you are looking in, that being said I would make sure there is no rust under the windshield. I got a nice surprise when I went to replace the windshield in mine...

Re: 1985 4x4 value

As it looks to me living in the rust belt, the mechanicals aren't as important as body condition and having said that (and it being a Shortbox 4x4 as well) that's a solid $4-4500 truck all day long where I live. But location is everything-westcoast and southern guys complain about mechanicals-we in the Midwest complain about rust so its all relative. Being a big OEM interior guy, I love the condition the interior appears to be in-thats a big plus in my book. I'd offer 4K and see what happens (assuming at least that it drives/shifts OK and the brakes/4x4 work. All else is minor to me.
