3 point seatbelts
hi guys,
im planning on installing these three point retractible seat belts in my truck. anyone here use the Autoloc brand seatbelts? i have everything i need .. can you guys show me pics of what you did? my seatbelts came with no instructions. do i use one mounting hole for both the retractor and the male side of the lap belt? right now i have a lap belt installed next to where the retractor is going to go... should the lap belt go behind the bench seat bracket like my old ones are? does it matter? i got that gold mounting plate with the threaded hole for the upper mount...it has to go behind the spot where im mounting to.. in between the inner and outer wall ...

Re: 3 point seatbelts
Different brand but should be the same procedure as in Bobs Hot Rods article:
http://www.bobshotrods.com/howto/3-p...chevy-pick-up/ Looks like you would need to turn the retractor to where the belt is toward the seat and use the bolt on the side of the L bracket for the other end of the belt. Trucks coming along nicely. Last edited by 1958Warrior; 07-25-2015 at 09:36 AM. |

Re: 3 point seatbelts
Thank you.. yes i looked at that bobshotrods article.. i thought the retractor has to be straight below the upper shoulder belt mount, but he has it at an angle. the article with pics is good, but there was no mention of where to position the upper and lower mounts.i know the upper one should be at a height thats comfortable... but as far as left to right, does it matter exactly where the mounts are?

for the belt to be verticle, the retractor really has to be as far forward as possible and the shoulder mount point should be directly above it? thats not how the Bob hotrod guy did it, his shoulder mount is on the front edge of the B pillar, and the retrator is tucked back, away from the edge of the step. im just wondering if the shoulder belt is more comfortable if its mounted as far forward as possible? i dont want to screw this up.will the belt work just as well no matter where the shoulder mount is, but be more comfortable in the position like bob did?? this is whats holding me back from drilling instructions say to put the anchor point "slightly behind the seat"

Re: 3 point seatbelts
Not to thread jack, but how would one do this with a large back window? It seems as though there's not enough substance between the door and the window.

Re: 3 point seatbelts
The upper mount was probably placed there for ease of reaching the belt to put it on..
If the retractor has a reinforcing plate that goes under the cab need to check for interference with a seam or brace under the cab for a smooth mounting surface I've read that the retractor itself need to be level for the lockup mechanism to function properly. As for being straight up and down I think it would prevent the edge of the belt from fraying over time, but still should function the way Bob had it. In a perfect world every thing should fit per instructions, but in doing a retro fit sometimes you just have to get it as close as you can Should work better than a ratcheting strap , and a cargo net to hold the kids in the back. |

Re: 3 point seatbelts
Ricky check out post 143 in Dunce79 build Probably best way other than welding a plate on the surface in a big window cab
