shift lever controler

the shift lever on my 2003 GMC 3500 is very loose in the park position so when I want to remove the key I have to push it toward the dash to get it in the park mode to remove the key. I also have to push it toward the dash to unlock it to start the vehicle. it works fine in the shifting part just doesn't like the park mode. it seems like there is a spring that is very very weak. can this be corrected by removing the shifter and replacing the spring or is this a part that has to be replaced as a whole assembly? this is a repost as it received no replies 1 year ago
thanks for any info and help

Re: shift lever controler

I have the same problem. Doesn't bother me too much though, so I haven't done anything about it. I would still like to know how to fix it as well so if I ever happen to stumble across some free time (psh, yeah right) I could fix it.
