Father-in-law & son-in-law project - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

My father-in-law started this project many moons ago(15+years) 1966 c10 swb. He ran out of $ to finish and his boys lost interest. Along comes me and shoots adrenaline into the project. He originally took I all the way apart and was going to paint it. Well this past Christmas I told him we're going to get it back together and get it back on the road. Lots of parts missing including TONS of bolts. Finally got the bed, cab,doors and hood back on. Waiting on new front fenders as typical chevy rust ate them.

Looking to convert the truck to a ps truck with a/c. Will keep updated pics on project as this is a truck that he wants to haul the grandkids around in. Slowly we will get it done.

This looks like a good project, especially as you have an objective (kiddy hauler)

Remember, most of us on here do not read very well, and a picture is worth a 1000 words, so post away, even if it is just of your driveway with a lawnmower on it

The nuts and bolts being missing is probably a good thing as new ones work so much better.

That's exactly what he wanted to hear. People seeing the truck at a car show and see the engine and be like oh heck yeaah. This weekend we will be tearing that 454 down and going through it. That's when pics will come.

Still trying to find the latch for the hood. That is one tough cookie to locate.

welcome, looks like a neat start. you could probably be driving it in a week or so of just assembly, so dont focus on the mods so much as assembly, a running and driving truck is easier to upgrade, too many things stop a project dead when you have big plans that are interrelated.

keep us updated! I want a video of that big block rumpity rumping.

Thank goodness it's almost Sunday. The day I can tear that BBC apart and make sure all is well and see what we are working with!

He had it originally fully done. Didn't like the color so was going to just strip all down and paint. Then like I said boys lost interest and ran out of $. I've been begging to work on it for 10+years and finally get to!

I have a slow leak in one of the caster tires on my ZTR, I have to pull up to the garage every time I mow and put a little air in it or it will go off the bead while mowing and that tilts the mower deck, making stripes in the yard.

Welcome to the forum

Don't throw those old fenders away. You may decide to fix them after you see how bad the aftermarket fenders fit. You might get lucky and get a decent pair, but just don't throw away the originals even after you get the new fenders. Someone here may be able to use them. Workable original body parts are getting hard to come by.
