idle problem
have had this nagging problem for the past week or so...
truck starts fine and runs fine but once a day or so it starts to idle really rough at stoplights. it runs fine when i put my foot into it a bit, but returns to running roughly when i stop again. if i kill the truck and restart, the problem goes away. my truck is a 71 cheyenne. it has a 350, all stock except for HEI. just changed my spark plugs/wires 3 months ago when i switched to HEI. any thoughts or help are appreciated. |

When a motor starts running rough at idle, I start looking for a vacuum leak.

I had that problem with my 90 chevy pickup it was the wires in the hei. they were corroded where it plugs into the module . it would hunt for an idle until you got on it then it had enough spark to run good. it also was interrmitent and hard to diagnos. just my 02#

Yup...check for a vaccum leak as stated above, and check what your timing is running at.

thanks for the suggestions. will check for a vacuum leak tonight.
as for the fuel filter idea, you may be onto something. i just changed it, however, i just had my gas tank out to paint my truck. maybe i stirred up some bad stuff and need to change it out again. thanks again. |
