C10 driprail seamseal and paint help needed!
I am prepairing to paint my entire C10. I have scraped and wire brushed the driprail down to bare metal. My question is concerning the driprail. Do I prime the entire cab, then seamseal the driprail, then reprime the seamsealed aere? Or do I base coat, and clear coat the entire cab, and scuff the clear coat then seamseal and rebase coat and clear coat, to get paint under the seamsealer to protect it from rust? Am I going at it completely wrong? Any good advise will much appriciated.THANKS in advance

I've been told that seam sealer needs to be applied on top of a primer. If not it won't stick.

If it was me, I would prime the drip rail (and entire truck for that matter) with epoxy primer. Scuff the primer and then seam seal the drip rail. More primer as needed and then paint.

A lot of the answer to that question depends on what products your using. Give us some more info on the products your using and im sure someone can chime in and give you a little more specific advice.

I would use epoxy primer on the bare metal then use Plio-Grip seam sealers by Valvoline HERE. I had excellent results with it on my truck. You can find it at most body shop supply houses and some will let you rent the application gun for a small deposit.

Re: C10 driprail seamseal and paint help needed!
Once the truck is ready for primer you said bare metal Right? With bare metal you need epoxy primer. MP172 from Omni is a really good one and what I use at my shop it is very similar to the big brother PPG DPLF 90.
Prime the epoxy then seam seal over the primer. So either after the epoxy primer OR after the first round of high build. If your roof is really nice then I would consider after the epoxy before the high build. |
