Bed Corners
If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery... I would like to do my bed corners like Kabwe's, does anybody know a source for tubing? Looks like 1 5/8", with a pretty sharp bend. I was thinking a muffler shop, not sure if they would have something that diameter. Thanks in advance! Cheers..

Re: Bed Corners
Kabwe lives in Southern CA where there is a fab shop on just about every corner that can do mandrel bends. Try and find a shop that does commercial hand rails, or maybe an electrical shop that bends conduit. You might even be able to find some pre-bent, I know wrought iron fence guys buy curves and weld them together.

Re: Bed Corners
I seem to remember Bam saying he bought U bends from Summit and cut them in half. Chances are he'll chime in though.

Re: Bed Corners
I mail order most of the mandrel bends I use.
This is the website for Columbia River Mandrel Bends. They source tube from the US and off-shore and the prices are reasonable. www.mandrel-bends.com/ If you're piecing bends together and welding the joint flush with a tig, then the bends from SPS are better and from all US material, but you'll pay significantly more and the quality is head and shoulders above CRM www.spdexhaust.com/ Another option is some steel supply stores carry bends for metal stairs and wrought iron work. The one here only has one diameter and bend radius, however |

I used a 16 gauge 1 5/8 u-bend exhaust pipe. I cut in in half and one of them will do both sides of your bed. You can get one here a jegs for 14.99. http://www.jegs.com/i/Patriot+Exhaus...H7015/10002/-1 Last edited by Kabwe; 08-05-2015 at 12:37 PM. |
