Question shift lever knob

Hi everyone I'm a new member and this is my first post.
I have a 72 C-10 with auto tranny. I have a new shift lever, it came without a knob. Can anyone tell me how to get the black knob off of the old lever?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.....

Bill

Re: shift lever knob

I believe the auto trans and 3 speed shifter are the same. I see them for sale in vendors catologs and on ebay, It may be easier to simply buy a new arm and install it

I cant say for sure but in the summer time in Phoenix my shifter knob gets pretty loose on the arm. maybe warming up your knob with a bowl of hot water will expand and soften it up enough to come off the old arm and slide onto the new arm.

Re: shift lever knob

Heat the knob- hot water or heat gun (be careful!), it should slip right off. Use a dab of weatherstrip adhesive when installing- it won't spin, after sitting in the sun all day.
