Heater core is out but questions remain.

Yay! The heater core is now out but I still have some questions.

There were some leaves and pine needles in there, can I just use a blower to flush out anything else in the ducting?

The fan cover is riveted on in places, is it OK to go back with a bolt, nut and lock washer?

Do I need to paint the fan itself?

What sort of caulking do I use to put the cover back together?

What sort of caulking to put the assembly back onto the cab?

Where can I get a new rubber flange for the fan part?

I'm taking the core over for a royal flush and pressure test tomorrow, I"ll get a new one if need be.

Don't see why not.

You shouldn't need to take that off, just unbolt the blower motor to clean that area out.

Do I need to paint the fan itself?

Only if you want to.

What sort of caulking do I use to put the cover back together?

Get a heater gasket set.

Re: Heater core is out but questions remain.

The heater core seal kit I got from Classic Parts was junk. The stuff for the outer box was a real poor way of doing it. They gave you a wad of it and the directions said something like "knead this and make it into a string 1/8" thick and 35" long".

Re: Heater core is out but questions remain.

You really should get a seal kit from LMC to put it back together. I'm thinking you could use cork / dumb dumb tape to seal it back on the firewall. Replace the heater core while it's out. This is a job you don't want to do again for a long time. Good luck
