Re: stupid frame paint queston

It is the same reason that the General changed the color of the motors to black in the early 80's, to hide leaks and grease puddles. Well the main reason they painted the motors black was in hopes of cutting down warranty cost. People won't have a oil weep looked at if they don't know they have it.[It was in my opinion thinking like that that almost lost GM for us]No disrespect for they people at GM.

It's cheap, too.

When you build a million and a half vehicles per year those pennies add up.

And with black the fit and finish doesn't have to be great. If it were body color you would feel obligated to do a better job with the surface finish and color application.

Plus - coordinating body colored frames with a particular cab/box during vehicle build in the assembly plant would be an added layer of complexity that no one would want.

Black makes the frame go away visually.

Re: stupid frame paint queston

wow I knew why the factory does black. it's when you do a ground up restoration black seems so blah. I like the color matching or something different. it's what I plan on for my build.

Re: stupid frame paint queston

There's nothing wrong with color coordinating the frame, it's your truck to do with what you wish. Once you see how many flaws and abnormalities are in your frame, you'll either choose to set aside lots of time and money to fix them, or paint over them and highlight the imperfections.

Machine Epoxy Black, some of the most rust proof and durable stuff out there.
