should i add the clock or not?

I have always thought that these trucks should have had a available clock option. So does this look like it could have been factory? would you add the clock or leave the pad the way it is. if I do this the black pad will be red like the one without the clock. the clock housing will be painted and the vinyl will just be butted up to the housing.

Smile Re: should i add the clock or not?

Thats pretty cool....admittedly.
But...I'd say no, its a little too big and obvious to appear and fit as a factory similar accessory.
It it was smaller and recessed or lowered more, that might look a little more natural but at the moment it doesn't.
Regardless...there is some forward and creative thinking behind that...nice work!
ps: What about the clock option in the lower spare gauge just to the right of the column? (I've seen some nice examples of that)
My two bits.

Re: should i add the clock or not?

I have the same dilemma . But I would deleet the vacuum gauge and put the clock in that spot. The clocks out of the 73 - 79 trucks are almost perfect fit and look killer in that spot. I did buy a vac dash but would find better use for a clock instead of a dead vac gauge filling the hole .

Re: should i add the clock or not?

It looks okay, but not factory. It breaks up the clean lines of the dash.

Re: should i add the clock or not?

I can always wear a wrist watch, but a Vacuum gauge let me know I had a broken valve spring instantly -- in time so I could fix it.
A clock would have just told me ''you're late, and I have no clue why your engine is running like ##$%."
So NO.

Re: should i add the clock or not?

As much as I like analog clocks in a dash -- and that's a decent-looking clock -- it just seems a bit out of place there, kinda sticks out like a sore thumb. Wish I could offer a better solution, but for now, all I have is a personal-preference critique of that clock in that location.

Re: should i add the clock or not?

I think it is super cool. It fits your theme very well. This is one of my favorite builds right now. I love all of the attention to detail and period correctness you're putting into these modifications to make them seem factory.

I would not do it but it is your truck. Do what you want to it.

Re: should i add the clock or not?

Wow I thought there would be more that would like it. I'm surprised a little. here is two more pictures with all the stuff in the dash. It looks a little more even with everything in. the pad may stay black. I like it better black.

I still like it because it looks retro to me. What steering wheel is that...Impala Caprice?

Re: should i add the clock or not?

Looks really good to me. Mounting it in the middle balances out the dash rather than having it off to the side IMO.

Re: should i add the clock or not?

Ya know... it is cool. Really creative. And it's your truck, so knock yourself out.
It will be unique.
I was just stating my own personal taste for one of my trucks. And if an either-or-choice, why I'd want to keep a Vacuum gauge.
Sorry to be such a downer.

Not sure if it's any help to you but I mounted my air gauges in a similar fashion.

Re: should i add the clock or not?

I haven't seen your build, but from the pictures posted it looks like its going to be a nice ride.

I like the idea of a clock, I have one where your vac gauge is. But the large one you have seems to be kind of large for basically an unimportant gauge. My Scion XB has a big gauge right there ... the speedo lol.

I've seen some pretty cool accessory clocks that are part of the rearview mirror ... might look for something like that. They were over on the furthest left part of the mirror glass.

Add a clock. It adds character to your ride.
