Straightening tailgates

Hey guys

Is it possible to straighten a bowed tailgate?

I have found a really good tailgate with virtually no rust and just a couple of small dings for $20, but it is bowed about 1".

I have heard of laying the tailgate down and running over it with a truck but I am not to sure about this.

Any suggestions.

Thanks, Litdave

Depending on the bow it is usually possible to straighten a tailgate. I used a 150 ton press, (more force than needed) to straighten my shortstep gate. I cribbed it up so that the force was applied evenly across the bow with the ends supported and it was easy to straighten it. I believe that you can do it with a heavy vehicle, but I have not tried it. I think guys have jumped up and down to straight them, also.

If you screw it up, you're only out 20 bucks, and then you can make it into a cofee table for the basement!
