Good source for extended front brake flex lines?

Just trying to do this without spending a ton of money on what seems like a pretty simple part. My truck is a 1970 with 6" lift, PDB and a Dana 60, which I assume takes metric stuff.

Is there a trick stock hose from something that will fit these or is custom the only way to go?

PO Had a huge lift and 44s, and routed the brake lines under the frame with extensions and I want to put it through the frame and do it properly.

Yeah, use mid-late 70s c20 brake hose (or '80s). Believe it or not they are longer than 4wd

I figured there would be an easy fix like this, thanks! I think the brakes changed to metric in 79, is that right? (edit, I guess that only matters on the caliper bolt)

Re: Good source for extended front brake flex lines?

Call Russell tech support with approximate lengths and fitting. They can find one that fits. For my application 74 K10 on 59 springs turned out to be same as 74 4" lift.

Hoseman in Santa fe springs CA can make any legnth/style hydraulic hose you need.

Or these

Re: Good source for extended front brake flex lines?

Have the original brake hoses always done what brake hoses need to do? Buy the ones I suggested and save a bundle of loot to get what you need to stop your truck. I've ordered the longer hoses from lift companies before. They did nothing the originals don't do. I've had them come with the rear hose having two female ends and the wrong size at the outlet. I ordered the correct hose from Inline Tube. I gave him the length and what size and type fittings needed and he made the hose as well as supplied a correct junction block. But I've been doing the OEM-spec hoses lately since they work and save money

Re: Good source for extended front brake flex lines?

I will try the stockers for sure, only issue will be if they are long enough.

Re: Good source for extended front brake flex lines?

make sure whatever you use...it MUST be DOT approved. Ask your vendor straight up. if they are evasive with thier reply move on quickly. Inline tube is pretty top notch. but the standard is DOT approved. dont let that slip by. expect to pay more too

Cool, thanks for the info.

BTW, does anybody know if 23" is the overall length or if that is just the length of the rubber hose itself? It is looking like I have a pretty good distance to cover with the 6" lift and 35" tires.

Re: Good source for extended front brake flex lines?

The website stated OAL but Ill measure in a few days when the parts come in. The only thing Im wondering about is the bend in the steel line at the caliper end.

OT; I recognize that "GM Genuine Parts" label you have for an avatar. I have an upper A-arm cross shaft in one of those boxes for my 62 Catalina. Most of the suspension stuff available for that old tank is NOS or NORS so I get to see lots of the old packaging, the Moog boxes are cool too.

Re: Good source for extended front brake flex lines?

got my lines yesterday, they measure 23 inches from the tip of the frame side fitting to the corner of the 90 degree bend on the caliper side.

Only bad thing is these close outs are OLD!! one dated 1992 and the other 2000. Not sure I want to risk using them even if they are NOS, I thought they date out after 10 years

Re: Good source for extended front brake flex lines?

Best way is to measure while the frame is jacked up and the axle is hanging free, then be sure to turn left and right and recheck, especially if you offroad. I used Offroad design braded and plastic coated lines, they are legal for highway use and marked. Give them a call and tell them the length you need.

Re: Good source for extended front brake flex lines?

I used Offroad Design hoses and also ordered from Crown Performance and they look to be the same design but you can customize the color with Crown. both have awesome construction but they're not cheap. If cost is the issue I would definitely go with Special-Ks advice.

Re: Good source for extended front brake flex lines?

I used 74 c10 brake lines on my truck just took bracket that held them to control arm off the are plenty long enough for a six inch lift and in the back I took the factory bracket that holds brake line to housing and bent it straight up and have not had any issues except in back when I pulled the six and put my 2in lift back in it put a harsh bend in hose so I had to put a unmodified bracket back on

Re: Good source for extended front brake flex lines?

You have to figure the age thing matters more with 'years exposed to brake fluid' than years on shelf. Look how long they last exposed to that rancid crap. I would use them. Also, no exposure to UVs

Re: Good source for extended front brake flex lines?

2wd C10 brake lines were used in this... Done on a 74 K10 with 4" lift. You have to swap sides with the brake lines because of the bend at the caliper side. But these bolted directly up to my truck.

Napa part # 36759 is used for the left side
Napa part # 36760 is used for the right side
