Wonder how much those cost in 1972? I should have been buying these instead of gold bonds.

very interesting. I was looking for something a week or more back and stumbled onto to those. I've been watching to satisfy my curiosity. It really jumped up today. 20 minutes left. Lets see where the snipes take it!

Re: NOS GMC Hubcaps...on Ebay...

At the level of excitement over them on eBay, I could likely flip them (but won't).

How often do NOS caps come up at all, let alone those 1-year (2?) only style, and for GMC, and for a 3/4 ton. I'll be an old man next time, if I'm not already.

I'd feel like I overspent except for the 27 other guys that tried to :-)

You definitely did NOT overspend. Those caps are exactly what you needed for your high level restoration. It's just awesome that they even came up for sale and your lucky to get them! Nice job Dave!

Re: NOS GMC Hubcaps...on Ebay...

These are 69-72 caps. Congratulations!! I wouldn't say the 73-75s are all that abundant. They are three year only and these are four years. How often do you see N.O.S. 73-75 sets for sale? I actually prefer the 73-75s for being stainless, concave, and no black paint in the center. I have N.O.S. GMCs in 73-75, as well as 4wd caps. A pair of those just went off auction at $600+. I'm glad I stocked up before the money got crazy. The problem I run into is finding drivers reasonable enough to run.

Re: NOS GMC Hubcaps...on Ebay...

I don't recall ever seeing a set of NOS '69-'72 3/4 ton GMC or Chevy caps ( black center GMC- Blue bowtie Chevy) offered for sale. I bet GM parts depts. ran out of replacements a long time ago, they were notoriously weak, they cracked and dented very easily. The later switch over to stainless steel greatly improved the strength. IMO, these caps are worth the price, how much are people paying for a set of dime a dozen new mag wheels?

Somehow, with this thread and the one you started about the same time, I figured you were a player on these. Congrats!!! Are we going to see a picture of that blue truck with steelies and caps in place of the H2s?

Now you are giving me the urge to put my restored steelies on in place of my H2s.

Re: NOS GMC Hubcaps...on Ebay...

I guess totally lucked into mine 5 years ago.
80 bucks for the set, 20 bucks for the polish, and 100 to have my signpainter do over the black and change the yellow to blue.

If he does, they won't be N.O.S. any more. That's the problem with N.O.S.

I have have several sets of the 69-72 N.O.S. caps over the years. They are just getting farther and fewer between...and mo mo money!

Re: NOS GMC Hubcaps...on Ebay...

I think those GMC NOS caps are stainless.

Did you take a close look at the pictures of the back sides ??

I'm still a newbie compared to most of you guys so I could be wrong.

Looking at the threads etc., I've learned hub caps are in another category as collection parts. I need to locate my caps where the black widow is on guard. Three of them are original, decent condition if I recall. Nothing like an NOS though.

Re: NOS GMC Hubcaps...on Ebay...

Speak of hubcaps, check these out for a cool 1K. I believe this is the hubcap a poster was recently looking for, though he only wanted one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-69-70-71...47a934&vxp=mtr

Me personally, I'll run with chrome wheels of some sort. At least those can be replaced.

...CHROME!? There are a few NOS GM caps that are stainless with real chrome. Not sure how or why---but I have seen them in 1/2T & 3/4T-GMC & Chevy.
Here is a set I have of 3/4T 4x4. The fronts have more chrome than the rears.

Re: NOS GMC Hubcaps...on Ebay...

Yep, Chevys are much easier to find. Just ask the 27 other guys that were bidding over a grand and lost!

I -think- the rare ones are chrome and the common ones stainless, but am not 100% on it.
