Module eater
My truck is on the 5th module this year. Since the first of the year, I've rewired it, changed HEI, and still goes thru modules. Anybody have any ideas?

Did you apply the silicone under it to dissipate the heat?

is it getting a full 12 volts?if it's run on the original wire to the distrib it'll only get 7volts or so

Yes, I put the grease on each one, although it's getting enough buildup it may not need much any more.
Yes, it has a key on full 12 volts. I wonder if I need an additional engine ground?

What is the gauge wire for the HEI?

Make sure your motor is grounded to the frame-frame to body. Is your battery grounded to motor?

Jhow66, I said to my wife at lunch that I would add a ground strap from the motor to the frame and see if that helps, yes, battery is grounded to the motor.

....are you buying ..Wells...modules?...i've never had good luck with Wells ignition parts..i always try to go ..Standard.. or better yet ...Borg Warner.... just a thought.....

I have to agree with Ken, what brand parts are you installing in there?
Adding a ground strap can't hurt, but since you have the battery grounded to the engine,a nd the dist. shaft is metal, you don't have a ground problem. |

Sometimes on HEIs, a marginal coil will eat modules. I learned the hard way. I put in three AC Delco modules in my 83 in 6 months or so. Finally, it died again, so I got another module, but that wasn't it. It turned out ot be the coil. An old mechanic told me after all was said and done, that some coils get too much resistance in them and it knocks the module out.

I've had 2 different coils, I've used different brands of modules, last two from a jobber who supplies my friend's garage. They have a lifetime warranty, but I don't need any more practice. I bought an AC Delco one yesterday.
