Look at Inlinetube.com. They have the parts you need. Order stuff for a 1971 rear and convert your 1963 ebrake system to a 1966 and up version. It does away with the 1963 factory ebrake crossmember. I'm assuming you have a 1963 Chevy with rear swing arms.

Re: Need e brake help

I do have a 63 Chevy with rear control swing arms. I do not however have a transmission crossmember at this time. I was just going to order a tubular one. Am I correct in assuming your saying if I upgrade to a 66-72 parking brake setup I do not need the crossmember linkage though

I think the 1963 Chevy frame has an ebrake crossmember crossmember like the 1964-65. In 1966 they changed the ebrake cable system and eliminated the ebrake crossmember.

I am NOT referring to the transmission crossmember under the bell housing.

Here's a few pictures of my 1965 ebrake crossmember and frame. It's covered in grease and dirt under the drive shaft. I cleaned it up and the put it back in place when I was mocking up my conversion to the 1966 ebrake cable system.

Hi revjames.

I'm not sure if you're aware that the Panhard Bar mount location on the '71 rear axle housing is different than the original '63. I had to deal with the same issue on my '63.

I wasn't aware that my rear axle had been changed. When I lowered my C10 (5"), I bought an adjustable Panhard Bar from CPP. When I went to mount it, I found it was too long, and if shortened it would hit the Diff cover.

After doing a little research here on the forum I learned that the Panhard Bar setups in 63-64 are different than 65-72's. I ended up modifying what I had...check my build thread below, posts 87 thru 89.

I imagine the easiest fix would be to change the Panhard Bar frame mount on your truck to a 65-72 style, then use the 65-72 Panhard Bar. I'm sure lots of guys have done this.
