Rear air bag - axel or trailing arm
I am going to put a notch in the rear of the frame of my 1966 and I am wondering where to place the bags. I have seen amazing builds with bags on top of the axel. I have seen others with the bags on the trailing arms. What are the benefits of mounting the bags on the arms vs putting them on top of the axel? I have slam specialty 7 bags if that makes a difference.

I have a pair of SS7's and plan to put them where the coils are. I don't see any benefit in deviating from the GM design, but I don't plan to notch or "lay frame".

Mine are currently mounted in the stock spring location. I am planning on laying frame, that is why I am putting the notch in.

I dont have a notch and my bags ( firestone 2600) are in the stock spring location and I have the bag cups installed. I did this for towing and not laying frame although it does give me that nice lowered look that I was looking for.

Stock spring location with stock and PORTERBUILT arms.
Don't really need notch, pumpkin pokes through before axle.

Thanks for the pictures. I am planning on raising the bed to accommodate the pumpkin.
Based on measurements I took before I took the bed off, with the axle touching the frame, the bed is 11 inches off the ground. So I figure I need to have about 12 inches of notch. I want the axle to bottom on a bump stop, not the frame. Quote:
