Last weekend's work.

Last weekend I took my new (to me) set of rallys with mounted Toyo Open Country tires (for winter) to the do-it-yourself sand blasting place in town. 50 minutes and $50 dollars later the rallys were bare. Some priming with duplicolour primer and paint and we're set! Can't wait for the paint to harden a while before getting the caps and rings back on; they're going to look gorgeous. I got the rallys, caps, and rings all in beautiful shape with mounted 85% tread tires (31") all for $400 (CDN). So for about $480 plus a day's worth of work total, I've got myself a beautiful set of wheels/tires for the winter months (not much snow here, if any).

Also got a start on my exhaust system. The pipes are all a Dynomax kit and 2 1/4" while the mufflers are Thrush welded and 2 1/2" - adapter pieces required. Don't have a picture with me, but this system will be coming off of '93 Silverado manifolds which I've ported and painted with VHT Flameproof. The Dynomax kit is for a set-up with headers, so I'll have to fab up some custom downpipes - no prob!

Re: Last weekend's work.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. Here's a couple of shots from last weekend. I've got a new front valance to throw on there this weekend; current one is cracked. Once the exhaust is complete, I'll ease off the work for a month or two before swapping on an edelbrock performer intake which I recently picked up. It's coming together, just takes time as we all know.

Yes, sandblasting wheels with tires mounted is no problem, even when concentrating on the bead area of the rim. The valve stem isn't a problem either. The sand just bounces off the rubber and is no problem, you just need to make sure you use plenty of compressed air to ensure the bead area is clean afterwards. One thing to watch out for is the lead balancing weights - don't blast them directly or the lead gets pretty damaged, just a quick shot around the weight's perimeter will do. Took me about 10 minutes per wheel, but probably would have been worth spending about 15 minutes per. The place I went has a few booths and charges $1 per minute for do-it-yourself blasting. Make sure to post pictures of your success!

Cheers,

BBQ

Prior to sandblasting I scrubbed everything very well with Simple Green (great stuff). Once they were ready for paint, I started with very short pieces (approx 3") of tape, and "flossed" them vertically into the bead, then folded them back on the tire. I was just sure to massage each piece of tape onto the tire. Seemed to stick quite well, at least long enough for the painting process.

Heck yeah! Good looking paint scheme on that bad ass truck. I'm interested in more on the exhaust. Any more pics?
