Re: Amazing what people want for these trucks

The buy it now is laughable. Theres not enough truck for that. It's probably a joke. The REAL price is in the reserve, which could still be realistic. Maybe not. But yes, i believe the more money than brains applies quite often and affects asking prices.

A bit steep for a long bed. The 8 track will make up for it though.

I was thinking it might be located in Colorado, but it's in CA... where I also believe the stuff that makes you believe your long bed straight six step side is worth that is legal...

Maybe his wife is making him sell it... I promise I'm trying honey! Nobody is bidding!

Re: Amazing what people want for these trucks

Not so sure I believe the 048,000 miles claim, with all those mini dings and small modifications.
Bed wood looks rotten.
L6 250/SM465. I wonder who would order armrests as options and forget to upgrade to 292 and WestCoast Jrs?
Two fuel filters -- one pre-pump, one pre-carb = rusty tank.
Non-factory choke cable knob in cigar lighter position. Heater controls rebuilt and pop-riveted back in position. [Not something that goes bad before 48 K usually.] Orange/Fawn interior is original. Seat is most likely gray Fawn vinyl under that Apache blanket.
Other than that, it's so close to my '68 C/10 [115" wheelbase] Stepside in 516 Orange from Fremont that I'd be tempted to grab it if it were affordable. My VIN is about 30,000 earlier. My odometer is at 342,000, but you can only read the 42,000 part.
The family resemblance is uncanny.

Re: Amazing what people want for these trucks

Look at any craigslist here in California its rediculous what people want for these trucks. Don't get me wrong I've always loved them they are my favorite trucks but people ask $10k for a beat up long bed cause it has "patina". I have a beat up long bed and I love the patina but I paid $3800 for it and got exactly what I wanted an old chevy I could drive, use, and fix up as I drive it and mine is actually reliable

Re: Amazing what people want for these trucks

worst case scenario is this
https://youtu.be/a05hYEqF_Dw

This one sale ruined the VW bus hobby for a lot of people myself included. you get two guys who have been drinking and have more money than sense. Since this sale the scene has changed, now every rusted out 23 window micro bus is worth 40K. I don't think it will go quite that far with these old trucks but then again who would have ever thought a 200K vw bus

Re: Amazing what people want for these trucks

The big name auctions on TV has everybody thinking they have a rare desirable truck out there. That and the FOX network news story on the top 10 collector vehicles with the 67-72 c10 trucks listed as #1 collected.

That's what makes people over price their trucks.

Re: Amazing what people want for these trucks

If a truck seller asks $10,000 for a truck and ends up selling said truck for $7,500 is it not worth that amount? Not to me or you, but to the buyer it was. Probably somebody with more liquid capitol that most. Buyer (probably newbie wanting to get into the hobby) feeling that he got a bargain as he haggled hard. Got him down 25% from original asking price. Might be he's always been hoping for $7,500. (still too high IMO)
I will hold off stating what I think the truck is worth (much less) as the price of these old trucks just keeps going up.
Every time one of these shops on TV takes a beat up old truck and in less than the one hour episode transforms it into a cool old classic, folks out there think "I could do that".
And another club member is born. They gotta start somewhere. Remember guys "it takes all kinds to keep this hobby thriving like it is now". It takes buyers, sellers, flippers, parting out guys, collectors, investors, shops, inventors, all of these folks are making money off of this hobby and I am darn glad of it. Unfortunately the days of good $500 trucks is gone or soon to be.

This. It never hurts to ask, though... he only needs to find one buyer willing to pay. If he can't find that one guy, he'll either lower his price, or keep his truck. Doesn't ruffle my feathers either way.

Keep in mind, Nobody knows what the reserve is. No bids yet. Hell the reserve might be $7500. The $20k might be just incase for some dip s t that ambles along..

Re: Amazing what people want for these trucks

I've seen some of the most ridiculous prices for these trucks at the Goodguys show this past weekend. 43k was on one window, and it had a slightly better Macao paint job, horrible panel gaps, and a worn original interior.

I wasn't sure if he was joking or not but judging by the amount of people smiling and laughing while walking away from it, he might have a job as a comedian.
