would stk 700r4 handle stk 8.1

looking at a crew cab 4wd project. I want to put a 8.1 engine in it currently truck comes with a 700r4/241 out a donor 89 suburban he had bought for interior and misc parts( put crew cab on a 4wd frame). I want to leave it an automatic so wife can drive it to ( she never figured out a stick shift). would the 700r4 handle a stock 8.1 or should i sell it and look for a 4l80e tranny to run behind it instead.

Short answer no not for long.

A stock 700r4 won't live too long but could be beefed up.If you go 4l80e from something newer you will have to get a adapter kit to run the right t case,The newer trucks use the wrong side drop t case.
