Hi There,

Just thought Id put up an initial post. Im just about to by my first US vehicle and 62 Chevy Stepside short bed.

I can see a LOT of questions being posted up here in the coming years as I rebuild her.

Out of interest any other UK owners on here, especially from Scotland?

Thanks guy's. And it will most definitely need rescuing!

It is a bit of a shed but the chassis is solid, almost rust free. Just about everything is there save the original seats and instrument cluster (but one is bring provided minus the instruments).

It comes with a 350 small block and an auto box. The biggest issue is the fact the centre of the dash has been butchered and I may not be able to repair it bit I'll come up with something that will make it look good again.

Needs a lot of work, but the price is right (for something over here at least) and it looks like most parts are easy enough to get and it was a project I was looking for anyway ( been rebuilding Land Rovers for the past 10 years. Wanted something different for a change).

and thanks for that link Scuderia. If I can take the dash out like that and get in to weld from the back I may well ne able to recreate the original.

Thanks for all the welcome's guy's. Think Im going to enjoy this forum and getting to know a new vehicle.

Anyway, took the plunge this morning (after spending most of last night looking at pictures of some wonderful trucks on this forum) and told the seller I'll buy the Chevy.

Trying to attach some pics but I think I'll upload to Photobucket first as I seem to be struggling with direct uploads.

Welcome. Looks like a good start with that 62.

I will offer this advice after seeing you engine bay pic: the electric fuel pump, very likely, will make a good bit more pressure than the Edelbrock carb will be happy with. They don't want any more than 5 psi, some say 4 or even 3.5 lbs. is enough otherwise flooding/richness will ensue and I don't think you want that with the price of petrol over there.

Again guy's, thanks for the welcome here. Think Im going to like this forum.

I think I'll start a project thread. That's possibly the best way to start asking the hundreds of questions I have on what and how to rebuild this truck. Ive ton's to learn but that's half the fun. Everyday is a school day as they say.

Hopefully I'll collect the Chevy next week and at least then I can have a really good look at her and even get the small block running even if its only for seconds. Sadly I ive probably 6 months work elsewhere before I can make a real start at her.

Cant wait to do my first burn out!

Hi and welcome . I only live about 15miles away from Grizz , and you will probably notice when you read his thread , we often help each other . There is Ian in County Durham who contributes to this board . Not quite Scotland but a lot closer than us to you . As for the dash, I took mine out from my old cab , ready to install into my new one . As the new cab well new to me that is had been butchered . So if you need any advise your are more than welcome to ask .
