Should I keep the C10 or the C20?
I have a decision to make. I have a 69 C10 and a 69 C20 and plan to keep one of them.
The C10 is mechanically sound, having a good running 350, a 700R4, a front disc brake conversion, and a tach and set of gauges. There is basically no rust except for the rocker panels which have a pretty good gap and bottom of one fender, but most of the body panels, fenders, doors and bed have minor dents. The C20 is new to me from the original owner who let it sit for 15 years. The owner did not non op it, and the DMV has quoted about $800 to back register it and get it clear. It was also registered as an RV, and needs to be changed to pickup, at some cost. It has a brand new rebuilt 71 350 with only a few miles on it which I have gotten running, and it runs very smooth. A TB350 tranny of unknown quality. All of the panels are completely dent free and straight, although covered with surface rust that doesn't appear to be cancer with the exception of between the windshield and the drip rail, where there are some a sizable holes. When I started working on the brakes. Couldn't get fluid to pump through the front calipers, and in the rear, one of the drums is locked up to the shoes. The brakes are more than I want to get into on this C20, so I called the brake shop and was estimated between 900 and 1500 worst case for a complete brake job front and rear. It is also going to need wheels and tires at an additional $1500. So what to do...? I'm thinking I may be ahead if I sell the fresh 350 out of the C20, put all the straight body parts on my 69 C10, and part the rest of it out. At this point it seems that the C10 is a lot cheaper to work on or have work done on, and I'm pretty happy with the C10 with it's disc brakes and 700R4. The C20 is seeming like a burden at this point with potential expenses mounting of $800+ for DMV, $1000 for brakes, $1500 for wheels and tires, and some amount for fixing the cancer holes. On top of that is all the work needed to get this stuff done. Better to let it go. The two trucks can be seen in the build thread below. What do you think, what would you do?

keep them both. Drive the C10 while you work on the C20.

Re: Should I keep the C10 or the C20?
You could also bring it out of Peoples Republic of Californistan and register it for a lot less! I see people in NY with Pennsylvania and Michigan plates because it is so cheap to register cars there.
Look at nearby states for better deals. |

Re: Should I keep the C10 or the C20?
Sounds like most say keep the C10, that's the way I'm leaning.

Re: Should I keep the C10 or the C20?
Since I own a c10 and a c20. I would stick with a c10 if u would only keep one for a steady cruiser. if the c20 was a 4x4 then that would make it harder for me to decided. lol.

Re: Should I keep the C10 or the C20?
On the surface I would have said the C-10... But being the Second owner of a truck is certainly attractive... the only part of the C-20 that is of a major concern to me would be the Rust holes on the roof... If it is the Outside that is rusted then you can bet you are close to serious rust on the indie... That gets real expensive to fix properly...

Re: Should I keep the C10 or the C20?
Sell the motor, and all the running gear for the C20. Take the body panels from the C20, do the body work, prep, prime and ready them for paint. Ditch the C20 cab as that work on repairing the roof rust is a lot of work. In the meantime, use the C20 cab as a template to do the interior work on the C10. Strip the C10 cab, prep, prime, and send all the body panels and cab to paint. Find a local company that is willing to charge time and materials on the weekend to have the paint done. Then the next weekend mash the 2 together.

Re: Should I keep the C10 or the C20?
I found myself in the exact same situation with two 69's, I kept the c10 and all the best parts off the c20. Glad I did.

Re: Should I keep the C10 or the C20?
Not to be a jerk but, the last time someone wanted advice on selling they threw out a story about wanting a classic to take the whole family in. After all was said and done, he bought a motorcycle.
Not that I care what anyone buys or sells, but, I think the best person to make decisions in your life is YOU! |
