Chalk markings?
I'm having my truck painted and restored and was wondering if I should have the whole firewall painted or leave the origional chalk markings on the firewall and paint the rest of the firewall? Which would be better? Would it hurt the value of the truck to paint over the origional Chalk markings?

The only circumstance where that would hurt the value is with a low-mile, all original, unmolested, museum piece.
Some people take pics and then have the markings re-created after painting.

The truck has 66,000 origional miles and is all origional in very good cond. ,but needs painting. I would rather keep them or paint over them and was wondering which was best.

I was talking about a real low-mileage vehicle in like-new showroom condition. Other than that, you're not going to devalue it. If you're not doing a frame-off, I'd paint the truck and leave the firewall "as-is". I'd like to see pics, it sounds like a beauty.

I have marks on my 72 3/4 Cheyenne Super Big Block (which is for sale i might add). Im not touching them.. 63,000 orig miles

Hmm Idident even worry about the markings when I painted my fire wall my truck has a little over 20,000 miles on it but they were hard miles

Unless you're doing a 100% correct restoration of the truck, I wouldn't worry about them. By "100% correct", I mean making the truck as good or better than it was when it rolled off the assembly line.
Like CPNE said, you could take pictures of them and re-create them after it's painted if you wanted the "original look".

I have taken pictures of mine, and if I ever do get all the bodywork and paint done, I will reminisce back to the days they were there with the pictures.

Thank you everyone , I think I'll keep them and paint around the origional markings on the firewall and on the rear of the frame has the same #'s as on the firewall. I think I'll keep those too. I'm painting the truck the origional dark green and white.

I'd go to the trouble of preserving them if you staying with the original color of the truck and your firewall paint is in good shape.
