Anybody out there got pics of 4-6 suspension drops? I was considering bags, ( to achieve the "stance") but I will be driving this truck daily and would like to make it as reliable as possible. I must admit I don't have any experience with air bags. Are they worth the hassle of waiting for the compressor to pressure up? How is the handling? I won't be road racing Corvettes or anything, but I will be driving this truck everday, and there are a few cloverleafs (on ramps, off ramps) on my commute. I may be mistaken, but these are the reasons I was considering spindles and springs. My only concern is that with spindles and springs, I won't get the "stance" that I want. Will a 4-6 drop look okay with 20's? I don't want to be "high rollin'".

You may want to PM Slammed67. His is a daily driver and it was shortened from a longbed. As for me, I'm a "high roller". Here's a pic of 4-6 drops for ya.

CPNE, who do you get your information from?? My truck is not a daily driver. Oh, and I didn't shorten the frame either..... I bought a short wheelbase chassis. Thanks for thinking of me though

Slammed67, how do you like your bags, would you trust them for daily use? How does your GMC handle? I like the trick you used to move the wheel forward in the fender. I look for details like that when I check out a truck.

Well, I haven't driven it a whole lot since the front cross member modification, but it seems to ride/handle pretty good. I went from a long bed with leaf springs to a short bed with bags, so I really can't compare it to anything. I do think my shocks are a little to stiff as it seems to ride a little rough, especially in the rear. I would trust them on a daily driver as long as the system was put together correclty. I'd recommend at least 6 gallons of air tank capacity. If you have the $$$$ go with an engine driven compressor and digital gauges! I just bought a Dakota Digital gauge but haven't hooked it up yet. I also have a York AC compressor to use for the air ride, but have to make a mounting bracket first.

i've got art system on the 'burb with the big red valves.There's no problem with lift time but if you play with it(raise/lower)more than 3 times your gonna wait for more air.I will add another pump when I tear the truck apart for paint.As far as daily driver-how many semi's do you see driving down the hiways?

Goodguys? Yep! I'l be there along with my brother ('66 Chevelle SS), a friend of mine ('56 Pontiac 2-dr Wagon), and possibly another buddy ('57 2-dr). We'll have to keep an eye out for each other. Still have that massive trailer hitch ball??? That was the coolest!

Sixnine, I was driving my 68 daily until just a month or two ago & it's dropped @ least 4/6 (and I live in your area, so it will survive the road conditions).

I swapped to 73-up 2.5 drop spindles/discs & cut 1 coil from the stock springs. I put a 73-up model sway bar on @ the same time w/urethane bushings & use off the shelf Gabriel gas shocks. Out back I use 2600# bags, a bolt-in c-section, adj panhard bar, modified original shock mounts for extra travel, and use off the shelf gas shocks.

Does it ride like a caddy? No. But it does ride like a typical stock height swb chevy truck. I've only hit my a-arm/s twice.... once in a construction zone off HWY 80 & the second when a nice little old lady plowed into me & drove me up a curb (the construction did the only noticable damage).

Is the air-ride a 'daily driver' suspension? When done right, yes. I've yet to have an air related problem in 3 + years. You only need extra air capacity if/when you play w/the system. Typical rise time is about a minute max. I only raise/lower mine when I hook up my trailer, other than that I stay low all the time.

two of my friends have bags on daily drivers, 88=98 chevy's, and they never have any problems. one of the bag poped and that wasnt even a huge deal

So, air bags are like anything else, when done right, you'll have no problems. I really wanted bags, but just wasn't sure about them. Looks like I've been talked into them. Besides, I can always bag my '69 and then tell my wife I need to buy another truck because the '69 can't be driven daily!
