It gets worse...
I struck out totally today. My broken door panel delima is getting worse rather than better. I called my GM dealer, and they don't make the panels anymore, and they don't show any on their national computer search.
 I called my buddy that builds scale models, and knows plastics very well. He said they can't be glued. His only suggestion was to use silicone and a brace on the back side.  That's not what I wanted to hear.Has anyone ordered the ones from LMC? Not the Coverlay copies, but the OEM replicas? I hate to spend $200 on panels, and them not like right....

Ken, i would shy away from LMC...try Year One, Golden State, or some other high end sources...they might have actaul GM panels. I purchased my GM panels a few years back from Golden State...genuine GM parts.

theres a parts guy here Junkyardpartseeker he usually hangs out on the parts board ask him to look for you hes very good and reasonably priced

old Rusty C10, I appreciate the heads up. Tommy is on the job already. He has a set that he has to go check out. If they are worth having, I will buy them for future upgrades, since they are power window panels, and mine are manual.
In the meantime, I am trying to get this thing in shape for Super Chevy in a couple weeks. I need something that will work in a short amount of time. I am going to try to patch mine this weekend, but I doubt that I will be satisfied with the results. |

Do you know anyone that has a plastic welder? You could use that. A friend of mine broke his front bumper and they welded it back together and repainted it and you can't tell. I know the texture might be a pain, but you could cover it with the paint....

I think I have good news for you. Both Chevy Duty & Classic Industries still list OEM GM door panels. Chevy Duty sells both the right and left, while Classic sells left & right seperate. The bad news is they are over $199.95 pr. @ Chevy Duty, $111.15 for the LH at Classic. This assumes they are still in stock. Like you, I am curious about the quality of the aftermarket 77-80 Silverado door panels. Hope this helps.

Ken, you might try some of that two part "plastic welder" epoxy. It wont be like new, but it might get ya by until you can get a new one.

If I were a betting man, I'd bet money that any aftermarket door panel will not be the same as stock. Unless, and I'm saying unless, they are NOS panels. I wouldn't put too much faith in buying any from any aftermarket company and expect them to match.
Look at it like this, the Coverlays will cost you 200 bucks, why would you be able to get any that copied the original exactly for the same or less. It just ain't going to happen. Just my nickels worth.
