LS swap exhaust set up (advice and pictures)
Hello guys & thank you in advance for your time
Just finished my ls swap this past weekend & now I just need to get my exhaust installed so I can get her back on the road. My truck is a 1969 C10 SWB with a lq9 Vortec MAX/4l65e combo with 2010 Camaro exhaust manifolds. I'm thinking of having the exhaust exit right in front of the rear tires. So I'm looking for advice and pictures of your trucks exhaust set up. 2.5 or 3" pipes? X-pipes or H- pipes ? Pictures and advice would be greatly appreciated. Also this will be a daily driver. Again thank you for looking and thank you for your time. Miguel |

My thread a few inches down
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=680952 Not exactly the same, but you can set yours up in a similar manner. A box o' bends from Columbia Mandrel was 85% of all I needed.

Hello BR3W CITY
Yes i looked at it after I posted & nice work really looks good but not only do I not know how to weld I probably wouldn't even know how to set up a welder. I'm just going to leave it to the pro's What size pipe did you go with? |

I use 2 1/2 for everything and I've never used a "X" or "H" pipe, especially for a driver. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money that the "X" or "H" would cost and run the pipes all the way back, either straight out the back or behind the rear tires. Just My 2¢ worth..... LockDoc

Re: LS swap exhaust set up (advice and pictures)
That & I also feel that an X pipe or H pipe is very crucial to an exhaust system.
Most likely I'm going with a 2.5 exhaust pipe with an H pipe with a right in front of the rear wheel exit. Haven't decided on mufflers yet ? (MF or Flowmasters) Thank you guy's for your time & input Still looking for some pictures just to see what my different options on routing are. Miguel |

An x pipe or h pipe adds power. If you don't want that power, no one will make you use one?

No one but Mr. common sense Curt
Any opinions on Flowmaster's versus MF mufflers? At this point I pretty much know what I want I'm just looking for pictures of exhaust routing set ups so that I can show to the exhaust shop to let them know what I'm looking for. |

Re: LS swap exhaust set up (advice and pictures)
I dont think you will find too many fans of flowmasters I think they tend to drone plus other issues. I like the MF they are straight thru and IMO sounds great.

I own a 1969 Olds Cutlass that I purchased back in 1996 with Flowmasters already on it they look & sound the same as the day I purchased the car.
A 455 Old's rocket with 3" exhaust & Super 40's Fliwmaster's sounds better than the New York symphony IMO But I do respect your opinion thank you |

Had magnapacks before and liked them...switched to DynoMax Bullets and am pleasantly surprised.

Well not the best pictures but I do have some. Long tube headers with dual pipes and Magnaflows mufflers. Sponsors of the HRPT.

Video of the new pipes.
I have to agree with LockDoc if you want to talk on the phone are to the passenger in the truck going down the road run the extra few feet of pipes and get the noise out the back of the truck.

Re: LS swap exhaust set up (advice and pictures)
Andy I understand what Lock Doc is talking about & I respect his opinion just as I respect everyones opinion i mean that is what a forum is for to help or receive help & opinions from others.
It's just if exhaust noise bothered me why would I choose to exit my exhaust right behind the cab? And Lock Doc pls don't take this as an argument because it was never intended as one. But when BR3W CITY question you believe me he was not trying to argue with you he is actually a nice guy that has help me & many others many times. And when you quoted me if you go back & read I wasn't talking to you & the opinion I asked from you was between flowmasters and magnaflow mufflers but anyway no argument or anything negative was intended from me or BR3W CITY like I said I don't know him personally but from what I can tell he is a good guy that has helped myself and many others. Thank you |

Re: LS swap exhaust set up (advice and pictures)
I wasn't saying anything bad about anyone. I just happen to agree with LockDoc on the noise. I wear hearing aids in both ears so I know all about loud noise. It has made me death in both ears.
I was just stating the fact that a few more feet of pipe will be very welcomed once you get my age are someone trying to talk in the cab are talk on the phone while driving. In all honesty it's your truck so it's your decision. Yes I have posted several times with BR3W CITY and he seems to be a standup guy. He knows his stuff too!

Re: LS swap exhaust set up (advice and pictures)
Naw, I'm an a$$hole in real life, I just like trucks and they help me be less murder-y with my human interactions. I appreciate the kind words however.
As for the Dyna's; I'd say that they are actually quieter than my worn out magnapacks. They have a lower, less droney sound. In general driving conditions, I'd say they "tame" the noise that my old setup had. Under heavy accell, they have more of a lions growl than a wolfs bark.. .does that make any sense? I have some good video clips of my new setup, but I can't release them yet because part 4 of my most recent series hasn't dropped yet. If you like, I'll rip some audio from them if you want to hear how they sound on my truck and not wait another week or two.

Re: LS swap exhaust set up (advice and pictures)
Brother I know & I'm sorry that you took it that way I just felt I needed to clear things up because I feel Lock Doc felt disrespected in someway and there was no disrespect intended.
Yeah I'm hitting the big 50 myself & work for United Airlines out on the ramp (very-very noisy) By the way a little off topic but how do you like those No limit rear shock relocators? How is the ride is it very noticeable? It's funny that's my next purchase. |

I didn't take it as a bad thing. I just expressing my 2 cents worth. We all like our trucks and that's the way I like it. As for the shock locators I think they helped a lot. One of the best mods I've done for the ride quality. The back end is fixing to get a c notch next week I hope. I'm waiting on the kit to get here now.

Re: LS swap exhaust set up (advice and pictures)
Just did my C-notch two months ago I actually went down to bare frame to paint the frame for my LS swap so I took advantage of that to do the C notch & man let me tell you they are 2 rivets on each side that are a pain in the ***. The rivets go through two pieces of steel so they are a little longer than normal & you probably already know this but remove your bed it will be much easier.
Thank you for answering me on the shock me locators. |

Re: LS swap exhaust set up (advice and pictures)
Miguel,
Not a great picture but shows my routing, 2 1/2" with H pipe, Hedman medium length headers and FX Speed mufflers. I put Tubing through the crossmember to run the pipes through, the mufflers dump in front of the rear axle and I really like the way it sounds, pretty throaty. I used some clamps from Summit at the H to help with exhaust removal, the H runs under my tailshaft. The only audio is on the dyno which has a lot of roller whine to it so doesn't give a true sound, if I get some better audio I will post it for you. These are fun trucks especially with an LS, enjoy.
