adding tach
Has anyone tried adding an aftermarket tach into the 67-72 dash cluster? Something that looks like oem but cheaper?

Re: adding tach
I put one in years ago. It isn't very close to stock but it was cheap and still works.

Re: adding tach
If you do a search, there are several threads about this. Also using a factory tach from a third-generation Camaro.

Re: adding tach
Ok, I'll be the nay sayer - personal opinion only, but I've yet to see an inserted aftermarket tach that I didn't think would look better just attached to the column as intended. And since there is nothing in the opening behind it, it's not blocking anything. Again, my 2 cents only, many have done what you're asking and it turned out fine - but I always thought aftermarket tachs looked better installed as they were designed not shoved into an almost exactly correct sized hole in the dash.

Re: adding tach
Years ago I had a couple trucks where guys had stuck a sunpro chrome tach in the center hole of the cluster. It fit, but sure wasnt close to looking stock. Used cluster sets come up for a few hundred bucks..I would just save my pennies and wait for a stock one

Re: adding tach
The PO of my truck had added an aftermarket tach as well as oil pressure and water temp gauges. I hated the look and swapped in an OEM tach cluster I found at Carlisle last year. By the time I sold the old gauges and cluster the cost was negligible.
