Bed mounting

I should have the bed back on Sunday and will need to start with the layout of the strips. I've check several threads and am not quite finding a lot of info. Any pointers will helps. I've got the mar-K sheets but am a bit lost as usual. I have the 8' fleet side model.

do the cross rails get mounted to the truck frame first them you set the bed on them and then install the wood?

Re: Bed mounting

I don't think the Mar-K instructions say to do it that way:

Re: Bed mounting

I did it completely off the frame, then put the bed back on, and finished the last couple of boards/strips. I left the middle ones out to put a strap around so I could lift with a strap and my engine hoist.

If you can, do the assembly off the frame. Doing all those bolts is a pain, having the frame/axle/suspension/exhaust in the way will make it much worse.

Re: Bed mounting

I layed mine out vey similar, but had the bed resting on the frame. Started with the outermost and worked in. It definitely took two people, to manipulate / massage the boards and strips into place. Just did he bolts snug initially, and once it was all together I flipped the bed up on end and tightened everything down.

Re: Bed mounting

Jay.

I like how you did it, so you attach the bed rails before mounting to the frame
