Heat sheild help UPDATED WITH PIC!!

This is on the 290 HP crate motor. The passenger side lower boss where the heat shields would bolt to isn't drilled? There is a boss right next to it that is drilled and threaded but the bracket on the heat shield doesn't reach that hole.

This picture is not of my motor but you can clearly see on the left of the picture there are two threaded bosses. My motor has the raised pad but no hole. It does have the hole to the right which is not used in the pic....

Why not drill and tap the area in question?

Re: Heat sheild help

Place the bracket where it goes.....mark with a marker. Use a punch and dimple the spot. Drill the appropriate length, tap and your home free.

Re: Heat sheild help

I assume since the pad is there, it should be just that easy right?

Re: Heat sheild help

If the raised pad is there your home free. Just don't drill "through" the block. Measure the depth of the other one, use a drill stop or a Marker (Sharpie) on the drill bit.

Re: Heat sheild help

L think you maybe are little confused where the shields bolt up,look at this 327 and see if it helps ,I may be confused but before you drill holes in your block take a look, http://www.thecairns.com/Impala/engine.html

Re: Heat sheild help

You could be very correct. The forward Driver side and the rear passenger side isn't clear though.

Re: Heat sheild help

Maybe I've got my placement off or maybe the wrong year shields (if there is such a thing).

Here is my motor...

Driver side looks fine and everything lined up.

Next pics show the passenger side of block. Empty boss on the left, threaded boss on the right.

Re: Heat sheild help

man got me stumped, maybe a different shield,I think before I drilled my block I would fab up a sheetmetal cure for the bracket you have and make the existing hole work, just my 2 cents

That's what I was thinking. Maybe a 'connector' bracket for the bracket on the shield.

I am using straight boot wires and running them along the top of the VCs so I feel the shields will help.

Re: Heat sheild help

That's what I would do. Just make up a short bracket from say 1/8" x 3/4 or 1" to bolt to the block and move your heat shield where it needs to be.

Thanks for all the advice folks. Came home early from work and got it done.

Not too shabby for a guy with little metal-working skills. LOL
