5.3 ring and bearing job
I got a cheap 5.3 for my 61 project that had a small ticking noise which showed upon pulling the valley cover a bad roller lifter and a cam lobe wearing. this engine ran fine at least 40lbs of oil pressure, no smoke, no coolant use, 150k miles.
I bought a gasket set, head bolts, stock cam, lifters. Pulling the cam out today brought out a damaged middle cam bearing. So the engine needs to come apart for new cam bearings and a thorough cleaning, cylinders look like new. Can I just "ring and bearing" it? Using the pistons and rods over again, stock rebuild. I would just get a wrecking yard engine but I already bought some parts. Thanks,Bud |

Re: 5.3 ring and bearing job
Get a set of ARP con-rod bolts if the pans going to be off anyway. Yes they cost a bit more, but since you already have 150k on the stock ones, it won't hurt..plus its great insurance if (when) you decide to turn up the wick a bit and not fear a failure at higher rpm.
