New Power booster
I have a 1979 C10, and I picked up a new power boosted and the rod seems to be about ½” shorter than my old one. Can I simply unscrew the rod a little to match the length? Or do I need to get one with a longer rod?

You should be able to unscrew to get the desired length - it's a two part rod for just that reason.
