Battery holder in 1948

Has anyone relocated their battery under the hood? If so any pics. I am thinking of doing this since I will be putting aftermarket seats in and building some new seat frame braces so stock location under the body will be non accessible.

Thanks

Re: Battery holder in 1948

Use a frame mounted drop down battery box. Readily available and a bolt on.

Do most just bolt right onto the firewall then? Any additional bracing needed?

No, a drop down is made to mount below the truck NOT on the firewall. There was no battery box in the AD engine compartments because there was so little space. That changed with the TF trucks but many of us with TF trucks move the battery to the frame for a cleaner, less cluttered look under the hood.

Thanks. I have the original one already mounted on the frame was just looking to possibly do one under the hood instead. I thought I had seen pics in the past of people moving it under the hood.

Re: Battery holder in 1948

My wife's '54 has the battery on the firewall, high up on the passenger side. Not sure if there's any added bracing, but judging by the rest of the truck, I'd say not. Running a redtop in there, so not quite the weight of a regular battery.

If you have A/C and or a brake booster it will be tough to fit it onedr the hood.
You can move. Back on the frame but use heavy cable to the starter
