Removing Clutch Pedal

I just went to remove my clutch pedal and I just want to make sure I am doing this correctly.

Do I remove the splined mechanical clutch lever bolt from the gas pedal side of the steering column first? Then I think I see a snap ring?

Or does the clutch pedal come off by itself and I just don't see the fastener?

You're just removing the bolt from the gas pedal side and then sliding it out on the clutch pedal side.

Thanks so much. So I remove the gas pedal side bolt and then I can slide the clutch pedal off? No need to remove the bracket that the bolt goes through?

I think you will find there is more to it than that. May vary by year, but when I removed the clutch pedal from my 66 it was part of the swing assembly that held the brake pedal.
IIRC I ended up taking the clutch pedal out, cutting the arm off with a band saw, and putting it back in to make the swing pedal solid.

Take that for the 2¢ it's worth,, really don't remember for positive it was the 66 that was that way or not,, just saying be prepared for more complications that it appears to be.

I cut mine under the dash as to not cause complications in removing.

Haha! Well I can't remove the pedal otherwise I would have to put a hand clutch on that Wilwood master cylinder.

Any other input on removal before I head back out tonight?

You do need to remove the splined bracket once bolt is removed.

1. Remove bolt from splined bracket
2. Pull splined bracket off
3. Slide clutch pedal out from clutch pedal side

Also, when I removed mine I replaced the splined bracket, nylon clutch pedal bushing and return spring (all available via the LMC link I provided). Might as well since you will have it apart and it helps greatly in providing smoother clutch pedal action. And if you are using mechanical linkage still (as I am) switching over to heim joint rod ends resulted in a huge improvement over the old design.

Thanks! I am actually taking the pedal off to bolt on a bracket to push my new hydraulic master cylinder. The stock SM420 has been removed for a ZF5-47.

Hahahah mis-understood. Thought you were wanting to get rid of the clutch pedal,, not just the mechanics of unbolting components.

Nice! well I'd say you need to post some pics of your progress and end result as I know a lot of members are thinking of doing same. Good luck!
