Wrong year yes but does anyone know??
Does anyone know if in 1964 chevy offered the 327 small block in their c10 trucks? everything I am finding says the first year it was offered was in 1965 but the guys says they were offered so its just a 1964 327 that he is replacing the original with as in trucks the engine and the truck didn't match they are more so if its a correct year that matches the truck. Now I was aware of that but in checking I cant see any case or any site that says 327 was in any trucks before 1965....this is a bad match right?
thanks for any comments and help you guys offer Last edited by kcsa75; 09-23-2015 at 08:17 AM. |

Re: Wrong year yes but does anyone know??
if you have access to one of the old service manuals it should tell you in the front what all engines were available

Did you ask on the 1960-1966 Board? They might be more knowledgeable about that vintage.

327 didn't come out till 1966 In the truck
1964 had the 283.. a danm fine engine if i my say so the kick panel (Drivers foot well side) should have a card with engine classes

Re: Wrong year yes but does anyone know??
The 283 was an option for 1960 to 64, then in 1965 a 283 or 327 was an option.(according to the internet)

Re: Wrong year yes but does anyone know??
Here is the generic info packet for a '64, from the GM Heritage Center archives:
https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/doc...olet-Truck.pdf It shows all of the available powertrain offerings - pg 7 (as well as all other available options). K

Re: Wrong year yes but does anyone know??
283 was a very reliable engine.
But I think the torque from a 292 inline 6 was a better fit for a truck.

Re: Wrong year yes but does anyone know??
My copy of Motor's Truck Repair Manual shows a Taskmaster V8 327 available as early as 1962 from GM.

Re: Wrong year yes but does anyone know??
From what I know the 327 was available in the big rigs in the early 60's then in 66 it was available in the C10's. My 64 only had the 283 as a v8 option.

Re: Wrong year yes but does anyone know??
For the 327 , 1962 is the first year yes, but it was only available in Big Trucks , C40? C50 C60 , same through 1964 . This picture is from the 1964 Data book. 283 was it for C10.
This picture is from the 1965 Truck Data book , 327 becomes available in c20 and C30 up to C60 . For 1966 its available for ALL C10 and up.

Re: Wrong year yes but does anyone know??
As everyone has said 64 c10 had the 283 as an option not a 327. But from memory there was a small journal 327 that had the same casting number as a 283.

Re: Wrong year yes but does anyone know??
327 was available in pickups in late 65 and 66. Same for the TH400 transmission although it was only available in 3/4 tons.
