What is going on ing this photo....is that a pressure sender or a switch? And if it is a switch what does it turn on or off[IMG]

edit: I should add that this is the fuel filter on my '75 HV70 with a Detroit 6v53, and I do not have a fuel pressure gauge... so is there supposed to be an auto shutdown or a warning light ?

Pressure regulator for an electric fuel pump for the diesel injection?
I know it's easier said than done, but trace the wire if you can.

thanks for the reply Jumps, I suppose that is possible tough I do not think I have an electric fuel pump,...but I will take a look and make sure. You are for sure correct that tracing the wire is easier said than done,,,, this particular truck was operated on the " North Slope"as a youngster and one of the "tricks" they did to plug up cold air leaks ...was to take a couple cans of the expanding urethane spray foam insulation and spray it all over the fire wall. most all of the wiring disappears into the giant yellow mass. One of the fun things about New old trucks is discovering all of their secrets .

I was curious, since you brought it up, about how to remove cured expanding foam. Apparently there is at least one product: Motsenbockers Lift Off

I have only ever used a putty knife and or a wire wheel, followed by acetone on a rag...but have not actually gone about the removal process on this rig..thank you for the link I may end up trying it.

OOoohhhhh. Spray foam. Aaakkk, gagggg. The worst stuff you could ever put on sheet metal (other than acid). Rusty (one of my beasts of burden) had the spray foam treatment. There are places on that truck that I have never seen rust.

I just saw the expand-O-foam treatment on a firewall yesterday and it was on a '38 Pierce rotating ladder fire truck. Funny thing is, now that I think about it, that thing is an open cab. I've always been impressed how he is at all the shows no matter the weather, and some shows are hours from his place. I guess on his it's to block heat from engine or for sound? I don't think his wires were buried. It has a big ole Waukesha 6.

I got an answer to this on another Forum ( I believe it is from a member here that goes by the same name ?) It was stated that the starter circuit is interrupted by that switch while the engine is running.

and he is apparently correct, sure enough the starter is not active when the engine is running I tested it!
