Looking for fuel door ideas

I've removed the in-cab gas tank and will be using the accessory saddle tanks as my primary tanks and using a '73-'87 tank selector switch and solenoid set-up. The access to fill the tanks will be through the bed floor.

I've been looking at fuel doors for ideas, and I have even considered making the bed wood hinge like an access door. What have guys done?

Alex, do you plan on carrying anything in the bed? Murphy's Law says you'll need to fill up as soon as you load something. Would using the stake pockets work? Maybe hide one of the late model fillers that allow you to simply stick the gas nozzle in to fill, just have it below the surface of the bed rail.

Re: Looking for fuel door ideas

I bought a tank from LMC. I'm going to figure out a door in the side of the bed. I've hated that gas from the bed floor since the first time I've seen that done!

Ya I agree..I love the tank in back but filling up when you have a load might at sometime be a problem...I'm in on finding ideas to mount maybe close to the stake pockets

Re: Looking for fuel door ideas

I've seen a fleetside where the rear taillight hinged out to reveal the filler cap.
