5.3 4l60e swap what is tcm?

Ok so.im gathering parts for my 5.3 swap. I have compete harness computer and engine from 2000 silverado with 5.3. The transmission I plan on using is from a 97 silverado square body truck it's a 4l60e and after looking it looks like all the sensors in the trans match the sensors on the harness. But I don't have a tcm? From my understanding a tcm is a transmission control module. Do I need one? And what year would I need one from a 2000 or from a 97? Any help at all would be appreciated

A 97 truck isnt considered a square body, but if the trans is from a 97 it could work, but wont be a straight bolt on deal. It would probably be easier to get a trans from a 99-up truck.

The crank flange depth is different between the two if you put it in as is the pump will not work properly and it will puke all over the place

And the "LS" year 4l60e's got a larger 300mm shaft, as well as some other internal changes/improvements which then became the 4l65e.

Re: 5.3 4l60e swap what is tcm?

I appreciate the info guys. I have a 2000 silverado 4.8 4x4 my dd and the trans recently went out on me. Couldn't find a 4l60e trans for my truck but found one from a 4x4 s10. I put it in with a spacer you can get from summit racing and I've put close to 2k miles on the truck since and not one problem yet. So technically I should be able to do the same thing. Since the s10 trans was mated to a 4.3 which has the same bellhousing as a sbc.and the 97 model trans will also have the sbc bellhousing. So I'll have to buy the spacer again for this swap but my biggest concern is that all the sensor plugs seam to he the same but would I have to get my pcm reprogrammed to work with the 97 trans because they are a different year?
