Help Id rear differential Eaton HO52 or?

Like the title says I just want to confirm the rear differential out of my 67 C20 is a Eaton HO52? I had no problems with it just swapped to 5 on 5" rear diff to complete my C20 long bed to C10 Short bed conversion. New diff has a little more freeway friendly 3.73 ratio vs old diffs 4.10.

It's not a Dana 60 so it's a corporate HO52

Well you're half right. I wouldn't say they are extremely obsolete. I'm doing gaskets and seals in my sons ho72 this week. Napa had everything in stock. They can be modified with 14 bolt brakes if desired and are generally tough as hell.

Re: Help Id rear differential Eaton HO52 or?

They'll be extremely obsolete once no more good used parts are available... if it ever needs any. As it is now, the driveshaft turns the pinion, the pinion turns the ring gear, the ring gear turns the axle shafts, and the wheels roll on down the road just the same as a brand new truck or the one that comes out next year.

Re: Help Id rear differential Eaton HO52 or?

its an HO 52. certainly NOT obsolete. parts support for the generic stuf is still available, the rest NOS through ebay or used... just about anywere. A good rear end. Do a search here or better yet over in the driveleline section to learn more and interesting things about this near bullet proof rear. And also lots of info onother 4x4 specific forums.

Yup -- an original Eaton in a 1-ton will be an HO72.

Re: Help Id rear differential Eaton HO52 or?

Thanks for the info guys. I know this truck will need brake work but not sure where the problem is.
are the brake parts hard too find? I really didn't look around yet since I'm not sure what's wrong with it.

Re: Help Id rear differential Eaton HO52 or?

Drums are hard to find but shoes, wheel cylinders and spring kits are readily available.
If your drums are bad and you can't dig any up, there is a way to use 14 bolt brakes and axle shafts but it requires a little machine work. Some guys just swap in a 14 bolt axle at that point.
