Need some help on potential purchase - 1987 Chevy Crew

All,

I am looking at a truck locally that is a 1987 Chevy Crew Cab 1 Ton Dually with a 454 and manual transmission. It is a 3+3. It is super clean with only a small spot of rust on the rear fender. What would be a fair price for this truck?

Guy is asking $2500 for it and I am thinking offer $1500 and go from there.

I'd say $2500 is more than fair. They are pretty desirable and sought after. I paid $2500 for one that ran like crap and needs paint. No rust though.

Offering $1000 below asking price, I know I would personally be irritated.

I actually thought about that after I posted... I asked the guy what his bottom dollar would be and he said $1900. The rockers also have some rust he says.

We shall see.

Depending on how bad the rocker rust is, I'd say that's not bad if the rest is in as good of shape as it sounds like. Rocker replacement on a CC is a little trickier since no one makes a full rocker set for them.

He is going to take pics and send to me this evening. I can't tie into a rusty truck because I am no sheetmetal man and it will be a long term weekend driver and project so the budget isn't ready for a frame off just yet.

It has the 3 spd plus granny low transmission is a TBI engine. Is there anything to be concerned with powertrain wise other than 5mpg?
