Did I get the right part

I have been working on my brakes. I have changed over to disks on the front. My next project is the brake booster and master cylinder. My truck currently has a booster on it with a long intermediate rod. I went to the junk yard and pulled a short rod from a booster so I can reuse my booster. Did I get the right one. I am going to get a new master for a 71 impala that uses the short rod.

Re: Did I get the right part

Even with limited experience here, I say trial and error is needed here. Too many variables for spot-on answer.

Re: Did I get the right part

The short intermediate pushrod you have may end up being a little too long. I say this in looking at the larger diameter of the stepped end which seats inside the booster.

If you know someone with a lathe, they can turn down that end, or you could shorten your long rod to the length of the shorter one. Either way, once you get things all back together, take a couple short trips, maybe just around your neighborhood, to test the brakes.

Re: Did I get the right part

I went today to the parts house to get the new master cylinder. And found when I got home the new m/c is set up for a long intermediate rod. Everything I have seen everyone uses a m/c set up to use a short rod? I got a m/c for a 71 c10 with front disks.
