Trailing Arms

Hello, 1 more question, my trailing arms have a bump or raised area next to where the spring cups mount. Is this normal? All the aftermarket arms and also repair kits do not appear to have this raised area. I thought that might be to support the other edge of the spring, but now I'm confused. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your response.

Have a photo of the area you're referring to?

Re: Trailing Arms

I have not seen any factory truck trailing arms with any sort of bump or raised area near the spring or anywhere on the top surface. If this is to the rear of the spring, your trailing arms may be rusted and weak and could be bending and buckling.

Re: Trailing Arms

Racecougar and Captain Fab thanks for your replies. I have a bump on each side inline with the coil cup mtg. screw. It is on both outboard sides of the arms. I also traced the bump on the poster board. Captain Fab I think you are right about the arm buckling. Here goes more $$$ into the money pit. Thanks, Jimmy

Re: Trailing Arms

That looks like it could have been created by a PO. That is right where the e-brake cable contacts the edge of the arm...maybe someone thought that the cable sheath would rub against the edge of the arm and cause a problem (it won't)?

The bottom of that arm looks pretty well beat, too.

Re: Trailing Arms

Yes those trailing arms have been beat on pretty good. They are also starting to separate on both sides of the spring bolt. If they are not rusted thru, they can be saved. You will need to remove them from the truck, clean them up good, squeeze them back together and stitch weld the halves together.
