70 blazer grill guard

I was in a junk yard looking for parts for my blazer. I saw a grill guard on a 68 C10 that had the #986839 stamped on it. Is this a factory grill guard that would fit a 70 blazer. It looks like it would bolt on just have to drill the two outer holes. Unfortunately someone years ago welded the grill guard to the bumper right over the bolts. Thanks Jim

I'm pretty sure the grill guards were dealer options and there were several companies that manufactured them. Pictures would help to see if it might fit on your blazer. Post up some pics.

Re: 70 blazer grill guard

Looks like the ones made by hickey. There were only a couple different companies doing it back then.

I would say that yours was is a dealer installed option. I wonder if yours is for a GMC with the wider opening between the end and the vertical bar. Here is one I have that I removed from a 72 Chevrolet.

Re: 70 blazer grill guard

I like how it turned out. I wonder how much it would cost to get something like that chrome plated...

Re: 70 blazer grill guard

I've thought about building a custom grill guard, as well as a spare tire carrier that would be mounted off the rear bumper. If I ever get that far I might have to check out the cost of chrome.
