fuel tank interchange

I need to replace a fuel tank on an 84 k10. it had duel tanks. are they the same from left to right and how do I tell if its the 16 or 20 gallon tank. can I put a 20 in place of a 16 if need be? thanks guys.

If you have a long bed you can put a 20gallon tank in but it uses different full hoses if it's a shortbed it's a 16 an you can't put a 20 in

its a long bed. is there a way to tell what is in there now? do the mounts need to be moved?

Yes, they are the same left and right. There are some yearly differences though.

On a long bed, the 20 gallon tanks extend back almost to the filler door locations. So the filler neck hose(s) make a 90 degree turn and go almost immediately into the tank(s). But with 16 gallon tanks on a long bed there are some factory added extension pipes in the filler neck plumbing.

Yes, it is possible to put 20 gallon tank(s) in place of original 16's on a long bed. I believe the front mounts stay in the same location and only the rear mounts need to be moved. There should already be holes in the frame for the rear mounts to be moved to the 20 gallon tank location. And you'll also have to remove the filler pipe extensions and connect the hoses directly to the tanks.

how about take this opportunity to put in an aftermarket center mount tank in

LMC Truck got them - 20 gallon
